South Coast Head Start
South Coast Head Start supports children's growth from birth to age 5 through services that support early learning and development, health, and family well-being. Our staff actively engage parents, recognizing family participation throughout the program as key to strong child outcomes.
Head Start and Early Head Start services are available at no cost to children ages birth to 5 in eligible families. South Coast Head Start works to ensure eligible children and families receive high-quality services in safe and healthy settings that prepare children for school and life.
Early Head Start Home Based Option: Available in Coos, Curry, and Coastal Douglas communities for expectant families and children 0-3 years old.
Many of us find being a parent one of the most rewarding and most difficult jobs we will ever have. Fortunately, you don't have to go it alone. South Coast Head Start’s Home-Based Program is ready to partner with you to make the most of your child's early years. Once enrolled, you will be paired with a home visitor, who spends an hour and a half at home with you and your child each week.
You'll talk about your child, how you see your role as a parent, questions you have about your child's development, your child's likes and dislikes, and your observations about your child's personality, and how they interact with others. About twice a month, there are also small group gatherings where you can meet up with other parents in the program. Your child gets to either interact and play with other preschoolers their age or spend quality time with you and other parents with babies and toddlers.
Head Start and Early Head Start Center-based Services: Part-day and extended day classes available in Coos, Curry, and Coastal Douglas communities for children ages 6 weeks to 5 years old. Classes run Monday-Thursday. Bus transportation is available in select areas.
Head Start and Early Head Start center-based programs help children get ready to succeed in school and in life through learning experiences tailored to their changing needs and abilities. Our staff implement effective practices to promote children’s growth in five key domains: approaches to learning, social and emotional development, language and literacy, cognition, and physical development through play, creative expression, and guided activities. Daily meals and snacks are healthy and nutritious.
