Emergency Food System Guide Release and SCFS's New Partner Agency!

E-mail Print PDF
Oregon Coast Community Action and the South Coast Food Share are thrilled to welcome the Coos Bay Salvation Army into the South Coast Food Share network of emergency meal sites and food pantries as our newest partner agency! As a partner agency, the South Coast Food Share will help the Salvation Army receive thousands of pounds of food from national, regional and local sources and provide support to help feed our neighbors.

"We are excited that the Salvation Army is able to provide emergency food to all of Coos and lower Douglas counties," says Lt. Kevin Pope, who serves as co-director with his wife Lt. Heather Pope. "Our goal is to make sure that those who need food are getting it. Being a member of the Food Share network has allowed us to increase the amount of assistance we can provide to those who come to us.

Located at 1155 Flanagan Avenue in Coos Bay, the pantry will be open Tuesday-Friday from 9:30-12:00pm. Similar to the Myrtle Point Food Share, the Salvation is a shopping-style pantry, where families get the chance to shop together and choose the foods they want.

"The real winner in this new partnership is the community," says Rollie Lobsinger, South Coast Food Share Director. "The Salvation Army is well-known as a charitable organization and already has a well-established population they serve. By joining the network, there is only room to grow and keep even more people fed during the year."

This winter, many of our neighbors will be finding themselves having to make use of the Emergency Food System and agencies like the Salvation Army. Oregon Coast Community Action and the South Coast Food Share have just released an Emergency Food System Guide which explains how the food the South Coast Food Share receives from national and local organizations and individuals like you, is distributed to those who need it the most. The Emergency Food System Guide can be found at http://www.orcca.us/announcements/1494-the-food-bank-system.html.

South Coast Food Share, a program of Oregon Coast Community Action, is a network of partners, programs and agencies committed to the belief that no one should be hungry.
