Oregon’s First Lady Commends ORCCA’s Innovation

First Lady Hayes SpeakingOregon’s First Lady, Cylvia Hayes kicked off her visit to Coos Bay with a tour of Oregon Coast Community Action’s two new facilities under construction on LaClair and Thomas in Coos Bay.  The new Child and Family Resource Center and Coos County Food Bank highlight ORCCA’s ongoing commitment to innovative solutions to poverty, economic justice, and environmental sustainability. 

As Oregon’s First Lady, Ms. Hayes has focused much of her work on finding solutions to poverty and hunger, and has a long professional career in sustainable development and clean energy.

A little support comes at the right time

Thanks to a partnership between Oregon Coast Community Action and Oregon Food Bank, food pantries and emergency meal sites all along the coast are getting a little extra help in feeding the hungry. Agencies all over Coos and Curry counties have received new appliances and thermometers that will not only help with their compliance of health regulations, but also increase their capabilities of serving food to the community.

Through their Network Support Fund, Oregon Food Bank was able to provide the South Coast Food Share, a program of Oregon Coast Community Action, with funds to purchase 8 freezers, 8 refrigerators, and 10 thermometers to help support its 32 partner agencies in Coos and Curry counties. The South Coast Food Share put in a request for these funds on behalf of the agencies.

The South Coast keeps warm with emergency blankets!

This winter Oregon Coast Community Action is helping homeless and low-income individuals in our community to keep warm! Through a partnership with Oregon Food Bank and the U.S. Department of Defense, ORCCA received 5,000 emergency blankets for distribution to the South Coast community.

ORCCA received the 89 pallets of blankets from Oregon Food Bank who has a relationship with the Department of Defense. It has been 2 years since the region has received these emergency blankets.

The Oregon CASA Network partners with The University of Oregon

The Oregon CASA Network (OCN) is focused on improving a child’s well-being and ensuring basic human dignity for children in the care and custody of the state while increasing the effectiveness and efficiency of each independent CASA organization.

Part of this mission is to ensure that state funding is distributed to the 29 CASA programs in Oregon in a manner that achieves maximum effectiveness. After several years of allocating state funding using the same formula, network members are examining options that potentially could stretch the state dollars to serve more children.
