Coos Bay (KMTR) - Coos County will be “rocking for food" this weekend.  It's the latest fundraiser benefiting the South Coast Food Share.  Portland-based band Hookah Stew will be play a live rock concert, and the benefit was all their idea.  Folks at Oregon Coast Community Action say the band's lead singer called them up a few months ago, wanting to put together a fundraiser to help feed local kids and families.  "We got a call out of the blue!  Apparently they've done events like this in the past.  I know they have a really strong belief in advocating for hunger relief efforts," said Volunteer Coordinator Madeline Enos.

The “Rock for Food” concert is Saturday, September 24th at Walt's Pourhouse in Coos Bay.  The show starts at 9 p.m., and admission is two non-perishable food items or a cash donation.  This is a 21 and over event.  All proceeds will go to the South Coast Food Share.

The two day Fun Fest also included other traditional events, like the Prefontaine Memorial Run and Cruz the Coos.

Coos Bay (KMTR) - The South Coast Food Share is planning a different kind of fundraiser this month.  Four local restaurants will participate in the “Eat Drink Share” promotion throughout September.  On selected dates, the eateries will offer a portion of their proceeds to the Food Share to help feed families in need.

Organizers say it's a great way to support local businesses, and feed the hungry.  Organizer Rollie Lobsinger said, "There will be different ways to donate while you're there.  A portion of the actual meal proceeds will go to us, you'll be able to make a contribution at the table with these little donation cards.  And we're going to focus on a particular restaurant each week."

Each restaurant will donate proceeds from both lunch and dinner.  "Eat Drink Share" kicks off September 7th at Mamma Mia.  September 16th, it's at Porta.  September 20th the promotion will run at La Costa, and finally, September 26th at Momiji.
